Mebane Message – Fall 2025

In May 2023, the Mebane Foundation proudly selected the UNC Charlotte Cato College of Education as the institution to carry forward our long-standing commitment to innovative literacy education in North Carolina and beyond. After a competitive statewide search, we chose Cato College as the partner best aligned with founder Allen Mebane’s vision for improving how children learn to read and succeed in school.

Through a five-year grant and potential endowment of up to $23 million, this partnership reflects both our confidence in UNC Charlotte’s leadership in literacy instruction and research and our desire to ensure impactful, forward-thinking work continues as the Foundation winds down operations over the next decade.
